Pair of Freshmen Knights Lead Marian Efforts at Grand View Open

Grimes, Iowa - The Marian wrestling team continued their 2024-25 season on Saturday, competing at the annual Grand View Open, hosted by the Vikings at the Ignit Sports Complex. Marian's efforts on the day were led by freshmen Clay Guenin and Marlin Williams

Marian was led overall on the weekend by freshmen Clay Guenin and Marlin Williams, who each posted identical 5-1 records and place third in their respective weight classes in the freshmen/sophomore brackets. Jeff Dunasky Jr. headlined the Marian's efforts in the open 157 weight class, earning four wins, with each coming in the consolation bracket.

Anthony Hughes had a 3-2 mark in the tournament at the 125 weight in the open bracket, and Elliott Rodgers had a pair of wins in the 157 weight class. Marian earned five total wins combined between three wrestlers in the 285 weight class in the freshmen/sophomore division, and in the 184 freshmen/sophomore bracket Evan Tilton scored three wins. 

In total, Marian's wrestlers on the active roster collected 32 victories.

Marian will next compete on December 7, when they make the short trip to the University of Indianapolis for the annual Little State Championships.
