Marian Men's Cross Country Sets Program-Best Finish at NAIA Championships

Columbia, Mo. - The Marian men's cross country team had a record-setting day on Friday, finishing the NAIA National Championship with a 10th place finish, posting the best finish in program history. Marian had two NAIA All-Americans in Tristan Trevino and Charles Leedke, as the Knights finished their season with the strongest mark in the team record book.

Tristan Trevino led Marian in the NAIA Championships, racing across the finish line 22nd overall after the final standings were tabulated. Trevino hit the first kilometer of the race in 173rd overall, and continued to attack the field, dropping to 31st entering the final kilometer. Trevino would gain nine spots in the final kilo of the race, jumping from 31 to 22 while hitting a time of 24:29.6 in his program-best finish. Trevino's time is a new program record for Marian, besting the former time set in 2022. The sophomore earned NAIA All-American honors in the meet, earning the sixth All-American honor in program history.

Joining Trevino on the All-American podium was Charles Leedke, who finished 38th overall in the NAIA Championship. The newcomer to the program finished in a 24:39.7 time, keeping up with his teammate throughout the race. Leedke dropped from 204 overall to 77 overall in the race entering the halfway point of the race, and continued to gain greound by finishing 38th overall. Leedke is the program's seventh All-American honor.

Clark Chustz would finish just one place out of an All-American effort, as the junior busted a time of 24:40.7. Chustz finished 41st overall in the meet, just three-tenths of a secound out of the top-40. Benjamin Moster and Benjamin Riehle would finish the scoring for Marian, as they finished 147th and 151st overall. Moster placed with a time of 25:27.6, and Riehle had a time of 25:30.3. 

Completing the lineup was Owen Pittman who finished 225th with a time of 26:02.6, and Aaron Broderick who finished 269th with a time of 26:35.8.

College of Idaho would win the NAIA Championship, defeating Milligan by an 87-96 final score. The University of the Cumberlands, The Master's, and Indiana Wesleyan would complete the top-five team finishers. Taylor University finished eighth, and Marian was the third team from the Crossroads League to hit the line, finishing 10th overall in the NAIA Championship. Marian gained seven spots from their national ranking entering the championship, and finished seven spots in front of Spring Arbor, and nine ahead of Grace.

With their cross country season in the books, Marian will look to continue their success in their indoor track and field schedule. Marian will begin their indoor track and field schedule on December 6, competing at both UIndy and Indiana Tech.
