Mishawaka, Ind. - The Marian men's tennis team takes home a 4-3 win over Bethel Thursday afternoon to finish off regular season CL play. The Knights are now 6-2 overall on the season a finish with a 6-2 record in the Crossroads League.
James Ashworth and
Tjark Kunkel were the first to finish in doubles action at No. 1 falling to the pilots in a final count of 3-6.
Jan Bartolome and
Jones McNamar were the next to finish at No. 3 claiming a victory over Bethel in a final count of 6-3. Juan Garcia-Tunon and
Marcos Ramos Cabrera fell at No. 2 allowing the pilots to claim the doubles point with a final count of 4-6.
In Singles action Bartolome was quick to tie up the match with a consecutive 6-2 win at No. 4. Garcia-Tunon was fast to put the Knights in the lead with a win at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-2 and 6-3. The Pilots tied up the match with a win at No.1 singles against Ashworth with final counts of 1-6, 7-5, and 4-6. Kunkel fired back to claim the lead once again with a win at No. 2 with final counts of 6-2, 3-6, and 6-4. The Pilots continued to push with another win to tie the match at No. 3 singles over
Marc Soriano with final counts of 6-4, 3-6, and 3-6. Ramos Cabrera claimed the final points claiming not only the win at No. 6 singles but a win for the Knights with final counts of 6-1, 7-6 (14-12 in tiebreaker).
Marian will await their opponent for the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals, which will be played at the Marian Tennis Courts on Tuesday, October 1. An announcement on the Knights' match-up will be made when the rest of the league concludes their schedule.
