Marion, Ind. - The Marian men's tennis team starts off season on a high note, claiming a 6-1 victory over Indiana Wesleyan.
In doubles action,
James Ashworth and
Tjark Kunkel finished first at No.1 6-1 claiming the lead for the Knights.
Jan Bartolome and
Jones McNamar were next up to finish in doubles at No. 2 with a score of 6-2 to secure the point for Marian.
Marc Soriano and Marcos Ramos Cabrera were in the lead 4-3 but, went unfinished at No. 3.
Marian continued to increase their lead with Kunkel claiming the first singles point at No. 3 with final counts of 6-2 and 6-0. Bartolome was next to finish claiming a point at No. 6 with final counts of 6-3 and 6-0.
With the Knights up 4-0 Soriano increased the lead with a win at No. 5, 6-2 and 6-1. Ashworth continued to increase the lead with consecutive 6-3 final counts at No. 1. Ramos Cabrera was next up to finish at No. 4 claiming the point with final counts of 6-1 and 6-2.
Bogdan Precupescu fell at No.2 with final counts of 4-6, 7-5, and 1-0 (5) in the tie breaker.
Marian will play their home opener against Mt. Vernon on Thursday, September 5th at the Marian Tennis Courts starting at 2:00 p.m.
