North Manchester, Ind. - The Marian wrestling team had a strong showing at the annual Spartan Mat Classic on Saturday, as the Knights finished second place in the tournament out of nine teams. Marian had 15 wrestlers place eighth or better, and were led by Elliott Rodgers second place finish. 

Preston Haines (125) - Went 4-1 in the tournament, going 1-1 in the championship bracket with his loss coming against eventual champion Trevor Marsman of Cornerstone. Three of his four wins came by fall, including his victory in the fifth place match.

Braden Haines (133) - Like his brother, placed in his respective weight class finishing fourth with a 3-2 overall record. Earned two of his three wins by first period fall, including one against teammate Landon Bertsch, falling in the third place match in an 8-7 decision.

Landon Bertsch (133) - Finished fifth overall in the 133 bracket, going 3-2 on the day. Earned two wins in the championship bracket, one by tech fall and one by fall, dropping to the consolation round against eventual bracket winner James Day of Wabsah. Won the fifth place match against Dominic Sumner by a 15-0 tech fall.

Brady Ison (141) - Seeing his first action since the early stretch of the season, Ison went 4-1 on the day and finished third place at 141. Ison finished 3-1 in the championship bracket with wins by fall, decision, and tech fall, losing to eventual winner Ian Boden of Cornerstone. Ison finished his day with a 10-1 major decision win in the third place match.

Daniel Stanfield (141) - The freshman turned in an eighth place finish in the 141 weight class, going 3-3 overall in the tournament. Stanfield finished with all three wins in the consolation bracket, taking two by decision. 

Drew Willis (141) - Finished the day with an 0-2 record, ending his day in the consolation bracket in a loss by fall against teammate Daniel Stanfield.

Romeo White (141) - Went 2-2 in the tournament, earning both wins in the championship bracket.

Marlin Williams (149) - Williams finished the tournament 3-2 overall, finishing fourth place in his weight class. The freshman won his first two matches by fall and his third by tech fall, dropping to the third place match after a 10-7 loss against eventual champion Daniel Uribe. Williams eventually fell in the third place match against Indiana Tech's Mike Loney by a 17-13 score.

Zach Wilson (149) - Earned seventh place in the tournament, going 4-2 overall on the day. OF his four wins, two were by tech fall, while in the seventh place match he earned a win by fall in 1:17.

Elliott Rodgers (157) - Rodgers competed for the first time in the new semester, and went 3-1 on his day, finishing as the runner-up at 157. Rodgers won each of his three matches by fall in the first period, but fell against Indiana Tech's Eljiah Chacon in the championship match by second period pin. 

Isaac Richardson (157) - Richardson went 1-2 on the day, earning a third period win by fall in the consolation bracket.

Braden Getz (165) - Getz finished the day with a 3-1 record, placing third overall at 165. Getz won his first match of the day by decision, but was sent to the consolation round by Ike O'Neill in a tight 2-1 loss by decision. Getz would rebound in the consolation bracket, going 2-0 including his 7-3 win in the third place match to end his day. 

Jairo Ojeda (165) - Went 0-2 on the day in the 165 bracket.

Evan Tilton (174) - Finished eighth place in the 174 bracket, going 2-3 overall on the day. Earned two wins by fall in consolation before an injury default and medical forfeit ended his day. 

Hunter Marlow (174) - Went 0-2 on the day in the 174 bracket.

Austin O'Donoghue (174) - Went 0-2 on the day in the 174 bracket.

Jimmy Lacey (174) - Finished the day with a 1-2 record, winning by fall against Manchester's Luke Dwyer. 

Liam Begley (184) - Begley took sixth place in the tournament, earning his lone win of the day in the championship bracket against Huntingdon's Kevin Shaw by an 11-5 decision. Forfeited both of his matches in the consolation bracket on a medical designation.

Jordan Fulks (184) - Finished in eighth place in the 184 bracket, going 2-3 overall on the day. Both wins came by fall in under 90 seconds. 

Robert Gentry (184) - Went 0-2 on the day in the 184 bracket. 

Clay Guenin (197) - After falling in his first match, the freshman posted a seventh-place finish. Guenin went 2-2 overall on the day, winning by fall and by decision, including his 8-7 win in the seventh place match. 

Kaleb Abad (285) - Abad scored fourth place in the tournament, going 2-2 overall. Abad's two wins came by decision, while in the third place match he was defeated by fall. 

Michael Yerian (285) - Yerian finished fifth place overall on the day, earning three of his four wins in the consolation bracket. Yerian, who went 4-1 overall, took fifth place with a 12-1 major decision win, and won two matches in the consolation round by one point decisions. 

Eldrich Flores (285) - Went 0-2 on the day in the 285 bracket.

Enoch Shodeinde (285) - Went 0-2 on the day in the 285 bracket.

Marian will return to action on Friday, January 24 as they travel to Missouri Valley College for their annual invite. The action will run through Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Missouri.
