Marshall, Mo. - The Marian wrestling team competed at the annual Missouri Valley Invite over the weekend, placing in the top-20 of the annual tournament that features 50 NAIA teams.
Elliott Rodgers led the Knights with his third place finish in the 157 weight class, scoring Marian's lone placement of the weekend.
Marian finished 18th overall, scoring 53.5 points for the two-day event. Marian collected 23 wins as a team for the tournament, with
Elliott Rodgers winning six for himself. Grand View won the tournament with a score of 248, while Montana State-Northern finished second.Â
Landon Bertsch (133) - Earned a 3-2 record, with all three wins coming from the consolation rounds. Bertsch won by major decision, decision, and medical forfeit, while his final match was a sudden fall against Wyatt Hinton.
Braden Haines (133) - Went 0-2 in the tournament, medically forfeiting in the consolation bracket to Bertsch.Â
Brady Ison (141) - Ison finished 1-2 overall on the weekend, winning his lone match by tech fall in the consolation bracket.Â
Romeo White (141) - White went 0-2 in the tournament in the 141 weight class.
Zach Wilson (149) - Wilson went 0-2 for the weekend in the 149 weight class.
Elliott Rodgers (157) -
Elliott Rodgers finished third place overall, putting up a semifinal run in the championship bracket. Rodgers won twice by fall, once by tech fall, and once by sudden victory to reach the semifinals. No. 17 Donald Griffin of Central Methodist defeated Rodgers in the semifinals by a 10-0 major decision coming off his 9-6 win over Cornerstone's No. 24 Thade Radosa. In the consolation round, Rodgers won by fall over Justin Windauer, and in the third place match won by fall as well against Noah Smith of Oklahoma Wesleyan. Rodgers finished 6-1 overall in the tournament.
Jeff Dunasky Jr. (157) - Dunasky racked up a strong run in the main bracket, posting a 3-1 record in the championship rounds, reaching the quarterfinal round. Dunasky won twice by decision and once by fall in the championship bracket, but in the consolation round the Knight fell by a 7-1 decision, ending with a 3-2 overall record.
Braden Getz (165) - Gets scored a 3-2 overall record, earning his first win of the tournament in the championship bracket with a win of an 8-2 decision. Getz scored his largest win of the weekend with his first victory in the consolation round, winning by a 14-5 major decision.
Liam Begley (174) - Begley went 0-2 for the weekend in the 174 weight class.
Clay Guenin (197) - Guenin won his first match of the tournament in the championship bracket with a win by fall, but was knocked to the consolation round with a 2-0 loss by decision. The freshman followed into the consolation round with a win by fall, and coupled it with a major decision win before eventually bowing out on a 3-2 loss by decision. Guenin finished with a 3-2 overall record.
Michael Yearin (285) - Yearin finished the tournament with a 3-2 overall record, landing his three wins in the consolation rounds. Yearin posted two wins by decision and one by major decision, before suffering an 8-3 loss to end his outing.
Kaleb Abad (285) -
Kaleb Abad went 1-2 overall, earning his lone victory by fall in the consolation rounds.
The Knights resume their WHAC slate next Sunday, traveling to Fort Wayne to take on both Indiana Tech and Cornerstone.Â
