Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Marian Knight Dancers finished sixth on Friday at the annual WHAC Championships, bringing an end to their highly successful season. The Knights were honored with seven awards at the championship, including head coach
Tamara Ammons-Jones, who was named the WHAC Champion of Character Coach.
The Knights scored a 78.6 in the preliminary round, ranking sixth out of the seven WHAC schools entering the finals. In the finals, the portion of the competition that made up 75 percent of the team scoring, the Knights scored a 79.27, which resulted in their final team score of 79.1. Marian was unable to rise higher than sixth in the field, coming up short of fifth place Madonna by 0.6 points. Concordia won the championship in their final year in the WHAC with athletics, scoring an 85.23.Â
Head coach
Tamara Ammons-Jones was named as the WHAC Competitive Dance Champion of Character Coach of the Year, while
Emma Hendrix represented the Knights on the Champion of Character team.
The WHAC also released the All-Academic team on Saturday. Five Marian dancers earned the honor, with
Ellie Johnson,
Emma Hendrix,
Caelen Carnes, Ava Cother, and
Ally Blackburn bringing home the honor.Â
