Indianapolis, Ind. - The Marian men's tennis team hosted Bethel University in the Crossroads League Quarterfinals, taking the 4-2 win over the fifth-seeded Pilots. After the win, Marian moves to 14-9 overall on the season.
Marian opened up doubles play with James Asworth and
Iyan Cresens, taking the 6-2 win at court No. 3. Bethel pushed back with their 6-3 win over
Mateo Guerin and Juan Garcia-Tunon to tie doubles one match each.
Marc Soriano and
Jan Bartolome were able to secure the doubles point at court No. 1 with their 6-4 win.
The Pilots bounced back with a pair of 6-1 wins at No. 3 over Guerin, but Soriano was able to counter with a 6-4 and 6-0 win, taking back the 2-0 lead. Extending the lead Garcia-Tunon took the 6-0 and 6-3 win at No. 4, but Bethel countered with a 6-4 and 6-3 win over Asworth at No. 1. With the 3-2 win, Bartolome clinched the match with his 7-6 (6) and 6-1 win at No. 5, advancing the Knights in the Crossroads League Tournament.
After the win, Marian advances to the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday, taking on the winners of the Huntington and Saint Francis (Ind.) match. Both the semifinals and the championship match will be hosted by Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, Ind.
