INDIANAPOLIS -
Kiley Watson has been named head cheerleading coach at Marian University, Director of Athletics Joe Haklin announced on Tuesday.
"Kylie (Watson) brings enthusiasm and expertise to the position of head cheerleading coach," Haklin said. "She has a passion for both cheerleading and Marian University and that is exactly what we have been looking for to lead our strong cheerleading program."
Watson, who graduated from Marian University in 2007, is currently a counselor in the office of admission at Marian University and has an extensive background as a cheerleading coach. A four-year letter winner at Lebanon High School, Watson spent her senior season with the cheerleading team at MU before graduating with a bachelor of science degree in marketing.
After graduation, Watson became the cheerleading coach at Lebanon Middle School where she spent two years. She currently serves as head coach at Deveaus Champion All-Stars Competitive Cheerleading in Fishers, Indiana.
Watson succeeds Courtney Mustin, who resigned due to a career change after spending three seasons at the helm of the program.
"Courtney (Mustin) did an exceptional job in developing our cheerleading team into a first class program," said Haklin. "She will undoubtedly succeed in her new career and we wish her luck."
The cheerleading team will take to the surface at St.Vincent Health Field for the season-opener on Saturday, August 28 when the Knights take on the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in the first "Knight Game". Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. and the game will air LIVE on the Knights Football Radio Network beginning at 5:45 p.m.
