Marian's Offense Hammers Home 10 Goals in Senior Day Blowout

INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's soccer team lit up the scoreboard on Saturday morning at St. Vincent Field, blowing out Huntington 10-1 on senior day. The win was Marian's first at home in conference play, as they climb to 12-2-1 overall this season and 4-1-1 in Crossroads League play. 

The Knights' headlined the game, dominating possession from the opening kickoff taking 11 shots in the first 20 minutes of play. Marian's 12th shot of the morning started a scoring streak, with Marian tacking on three goals in a five minute window. The first goal of the day came from Erin Oleksak, who scored in the 22nd minute off a pass from Gretchen MallinAllie Schlom scored 121 seconds later with Maya Decker earning the assist, and in the 27th minute Oleksak put away her second goal, with Mallin and Schlom assisting on the goal.

Marian kept their attacking going, and in the 37th minute Oleksak completed her third hat trick of the season scoring off a pass from Ryli JohnDrew Mason capped the first half scoring, heading in a goal in the 44th minute to give Marian a 5-0 lead at halftime. In the first half alone, Marian took 21 shots, allowing just one Huntington shot.

The scores kept coming for Marian in the second half, with the Knights adding five more goals to their total. John scored the first of the half bending in a goal in the 49th minute off a Jacelyn Smith assist, and eight minutes later Oleksak recorded her fourth goal as Smith assisted on the goal. Huntington would snap the shutout in the 62nd minute, but Marian answered less than 40 seconds later with Mason scoring on a Kinadee White pass. 

John and Lexi Curry ended the scoring for the afternoon, with John scoring the ninth goal on a Lindsey Stoughton assist. Curry's first career goal came in the 86th minute, with John adding an assist to the Curry goal.

Marian took 34 shots in the win, with Oleksak's 10 shots leading Marian as the junior recorded her first career four-goal game. Schlom was credited with the game-winning goal adding an assist to her statline, Smith led Marian three assists. John and Mason each recorded a brace, and John had two assists. Marian ended the game with 11 assists on their 10 goals.

The Knights will go on the road next Saturday traveling to Goshen College.
