Knights Earn Road Shutout Over Cougars

Box Score

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Marian women's soccer team picked up their second Crossroads League win of the season Saturday night, going on the road to earn a 4-0 shutout at St. Francis. The win improves Marian to 10-2-1 overall this season, while their Crossroads League record moves to 2-1-1.

Marian wasted little time getting their first goal of the game Saturday night, getting help from the Cougars defense to take the early 1-0 lead. Erin Oleksak attacked the net from dead on, and after getting behind the defense the junior sent a pass over to Jacelyn Smith. Before the ball could reach Smith, a Cougar defender jumped in to clear the ball, but instead re-directed the pass into the net, giving Marian their early lead on an own goal.

The Knights poured on the shot attempts after the opening goal, but were unsuccessful in doubling their lead, going 0-7 on shots over the final 38 minutes of the half. Marian's defense controlled their end of the field in the first half, allowing little to no prenetation from the Cougars offense, allowing zero shots in the first half.

In the second half, Marian continued their offensive dominance taking the first three shots of the half, turning the third one into a goal. Erin Oleksak pushed in the second goal of the night, banging an unassisted shot into the right corner pocket of the net from 10 yards out. Following Oleksak's 61st minute score, Miranda Nosko got involved with the offense, taking in a pass from Allie Schlom in front of the frame to bury her first career goal.

Jacelyn Smith iced the game in the 86th minute with a goal off a Cougar turnover, taking a touch pass from Drew Mason to score the fourth and final goal in the 4-0 win. Oleksak, Nosko, and Smith each took two shots on goal, netting one goal each. Schlom led Marian with four shots, as she and Mason each recorded an assist. Noelle Rolfsen recorded a shutout in frame, seeing just one shot come near goal but the 85th minute attack from the Cougars clanged off the crossbar.

Marian will finish their three-game road stint on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to Mount Vernon Nazarene for a 4 PM contest.
