Oleksak Records Third Brace of the Season as Knights Draw With No. 16 Grace

Box Score

Winona Lake, Ind. - The Marian women's soccer team battled through a wild game with No. 16 Grace on Saturday night in their Crossroads League opener, playing to a 2-2 draw with the Lancers after 110 minutes. Erin Oleksak scored both of Marian's goals to record the brace, with her second goal standing as the game-tying score. Marian starts Crossroads League play with an 0-0-1 record, while the overall mark is now 8-1-1.

The Knights wasted little time netting the first goal Saturday night, with Erin Oleksak finding the back of the net just six minutes into play, striking on an unassisted goal. Oleksak's goal stood as the lone score in the contest for the next 24 minutes, but the Lancers went on the offensive, getting one of their six shots in the first half to slide past Noelle Rolfsen in the 31st minute to tie the game 1-1 off the boot of Eliana Styer. Styer's goal kept the game level as it went to halftime, with the Lancers ending the half holding a 6-3 lead in shot totals.

In the second half it was Marian who was the more dominant offensive team, as they out-shot Grace 7-2 in the next 45 minutes. One of the two Lancer shots was good for a go-ahead goal, as Madison Tuma blasted a ball over Rolfsen's head and into the corner pocket to put Grace up 2-1. The lead didn't last long, as Oleksak broke free off the restart, and fired a one-timer from 30 yards out to send a ball over Bethany Blackwood, bringing the game back to a tie after 15 seconds.

The match remained a draw over the final 23 mintues of regulation, sending Marian to their first overtime match of the season. The Knights again dominated on the offensive zone in the first overtime taking five shots to Grace's one, but were unable to find a game-winner as just one shot went on frame. In the second overtime it was much of the same result, with Marian taking three shots to none for the home team, but neither of the three looks found a home in the back of the net, ending the match in a draw.

For Oleksak, she recorded her fourth multi-goal game of the season, leading the team with eight of their 18 shots while taking five looks on goal. Allie Schlom and Delaney Taylor each took two shots for Marian, and Ryli John recorded three attempts off the bench. Rolfsen faced five shots on frame on the day, making three saves while allowing two goals over 110 minutes.

Marian will aim to get their first win of the league season on Wednesday night, as they bring in No. 4 Spring Arbor to St. Vincent Field for a 7 PM match.
