Adrian, Mich. - The Marian wrestling team kicked off their dual schedule on Monday night with a road victory, taking down Siena Heights in their WHAC opener. Marian's win is their first in dual competition this season, as they start 1-0.
Marian forfeited the opening two weight classes at 125 and 133, and Siena Heights scored the first win on the mat at 141 as Christopher Sorrow defeated Aundre Beatty 9-4. Marian rebounded with their first win at 149 lbs. as Ian Heath defeated Dylan McLean by fall in 55 seconds, but fell behind 18-6 as Matthew Dwyer defeated Jordan Fulks 11-5 in the 157 weight class.
Trailing on the scoreboard, the Knights flipped the board as their anchors in the lineup hit the mat, starting with 165 lbs. No. 3 Elliot Rodgers winning by first period fall against Gage Parker. The 44 second victory brought Marian within six points, and No. 10 Noah Hollendonner made it one-point match following his 18-2 tech. fall victory at 174 lbs. No. 3 Sam Osho won by forfeit at 184 to give Marian the lead, sealing the match.
No. 7 Jack Servies won by a 5-3 decision at 197 lbs. against Wesley Peters to give the Knights a 26-point total, and Austin Lane finished the match with a 9-7 sudden victory at 285 lbs. over Jaylen Culver.
Marian will next be in action on December 3, as they compete in the annual Little State Tournament, hosted by Manchester University.
