Marian's Season Ends in Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals

Mishawaka, Ind. - The Marian men's soccer team saw their season come to a close on Saturday, as Marian was out-played by top-seed and NAIA No. 7 Bethel in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. Marian's 5-0 loss ends their season with a 5-11-2 overall record.

Bethel controlled possession early and often, taking three shots in the direction of Alvaro Rueda in the first 10 minutes. Rueda came away with a save on the first look on frame, but was unable to make a second conseuctive as Luan Bressy snuck one in at the top of the 12th minute to pull Bethel in front 1-0. The Knights would gradually get their offense going as Nate Van Keulen and Justin Kapp took an attempt, but both sailed the crossbar.

After Kapp's shot, Bethel's offense found a groove, firing three unanswered shot attempts. The Pilots would get a fourth from Andre Sabino in the 30th minute, as his penalty kick cleared Rueda and would help give Bethel a 2-0 lead entering the halftime intermission.

Bethel continued to pile on the shot attempts in the second half, taking eight to the Knights four. Marian would start the second half with shots from Van Keulen and Sam Goodin, but were unsuccessful, leading to a counter and score from Bressy to make it a 3-0 game. Sabino matched his teammate with his second goal in the 53rd minute, which all but put the match away. Van Keulen and Miguel Luna would each add one more shot before the match was over with Van Keulen's the lone look on frame, and in the 87th minute Marcos Estabaranz capped the scoring to make it 5-0.

In their season finale Marian was out-shot 18-6, with Van Keulen taking three of the six and the only shot on goal. Rueda would make six saves as he played the full 90 minutes, but allowed five goals in the loss.
