Marian JV Wrestles at Lindsey Wilson Challenge Duals

Columbia, Ky. - The Marian JV wrestling team competed on Saturday at the NAIA Challenge Duals hosted by Lindsey Wilson, going 1-3 on the day agianst teams ranked in the top-15 of the recent NAIA Poll. Marian had a strong bout against No. 14 Lindsey Wilson in which they were victorious 20-19, and Justice Cash had the top day for Marian going 3-1. 

Reinhardt 39-9 Marian

Marian earned two wins in a tough loss against No. 15 Reinhardt, as the Eagles had a dominant win over the Knights. Reinhardt earned four wins by fall in the match en route to their win, while picking up a win by major decision and tech fall. Justice Cash had a commanding win by fall over Michael Watts, pinning his opponent at 197 in 53 seconds. Ian Heath earned a 4-2 win by decision over CJ Shadinger for Marian's other victory in the match.

Campbellsville 52-0 Marian

The Knights were shutout against the Tigers, as they were unable to score a victory against the 11th ranked team in the NAIA. Zach Wilson lost a competitive bout at 157 falling in a 2-1 decision, and at 141 Landon Bertsch was defeated 8-6. 

University of the Cumberlands 38-9 Marian

Marian scored a pair of wins against No. 12 Cumberlands, as they were defeated 38-9 against the Patriots. Marian suffered four defeats by fall and one by tech fall, as they hung tough against their opponent. Cash earned a win by fall over CJ Figueroa-Orduno in the second period, and Alex Hernandez earned a win by decision against Wylie Dunn in a 7-5 score. 

Marian 20-19 Lindsey Wilson

The Knights earned their lone win of the day against No. 14 Lindsey Wilson, as they were won the match by one criteria point. The Blue Raiders began the match with wins at 125 and 133, but Marian got on the board as Bertsch won by decision at 141 over Drake Montelongo. Marian fell at 149, but at 157 Wilson scored an 11-0 major decision victory, scoring four points for his team. Jordan Fulks won by forfeit at 157 and Cash earned a win by fall to put Marian in front 19-16 they lost both 174 and 184. With the match left in the balance of the 285 decision, Hernandez came up short against Nike Bussell, as the 12th ranked wrestler at 285 in the NAIA defeated the Marian product 5-2. Hernandez's loss put the score in a 19-19 tie, but the Knights won the match 20-19 by having a win by fall, giving Cash the winning bout. 

Marian's varsity will compete in Reno, Nevada, this Friday and Sunday in multiple tournaments against top NAIA and NCAA DI competition.
