No. 5 Knights Breeze Past No. 11 Aquinas

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 5 Marian women's soccer team took down No. 11 Aquinas in a top-15 showdown at St. Vincent Field Saturday afternoon, 5-1. With this win the Knights move to 6-0-1 on the season.

It was all Marian in the first half, as they controlled a majority of the possession in the first half. The Knights fired off a total of eight shots as to the Saints 6. Marian wasted no time to get themselves on the board, as Naomi Walters got a nice ball from Maya Decker to give the Knights the 1-0 lead. Walters was not finished in the half, as she went on to score her second goal of the match at the 17:07 mark.

With Marian leading 2-0, they continued their offensive pressure by scoring their third and final goal of the half to the thanks of Allie Schlom on the assist from Ryli John. Lindsey Stoughton was able to produce one more shot attempt for the Knights before going into the break, but she was unable to execute as their goalie would get her hands on it.

Marian came out firing yet again in the second half, as Erin Oleksak got things rolling for the Knights, booting one at the Aquinas goalie. Although both team were able to post seven shot attempts each, the Knights were the ones who seemed to have the offensive execution by continuing to pressure the visitors. Walters had a great look at a header that would go just wide, just before Oleksak would give the Knights some extra juice at the 68:52 mark by scoring her a goal of her own after breaking away from the Aquinas defenders. Schlom wanted in on the action, as she scored her second goal, and the team's final goal of the match, a minute and a half later to give the Knights the 5-0 lead over the Saints.

Aquinas finally found themselves on the board in the 76:28 mark, but it was no match for the Knight's solid offensive performance.

Walters and Schlom led the way for Marian with two goals each, while Oleksak added a goal of her own and an assist. Oleksak also posted five shots, while Walters had three, and Jacelyn Smith added two. Delaney Taylor also had a shot attempt and Decker posted an assist. Noelle Rolfsen got the win in goal for the Knights, making five saves and playing the full 90 minutes.

Marian will be back in action as they trave to Lima, Ohio on September 14 to take on UNOH at 12 PM.
