Marian Picks Up Another Sweep With Win Over Goshen

INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian volleyball team took down Goshen in dominating fashion Saturday afternoon, picking up their fourth Crossroads League win of the season with a 3-0 sweep of the Maple Leafs. The win improves the Knights record to 12-0 overall while holding a 4-0 record in Crossroads League play.

Marian traded points with Goshen early in the first set with the score being tied 9-9 before the Knights put together an offensive attack after a kill by Skyler Van Note and a Gianna Feld service ace sparked an 8-0 run by the Knights to take the 17-9 lead. The Maple Leafs ended the run by Knights, answering back with a kill. However, Marian got back to doing what they do best, finishing off the visitors behind kills from Van Note, Madison Brooks, Jaymison Summers, Jai-Lyn Norwood, and Gabby Fish.

The second set was all Marian, making quick work of Goshen 25-12. The Knights jumped out to a huge 11-1 lead to start the set, before Goshen responded with a point of their own. Fish answered back with a kill on the assist from Katie Hardegree to flip the momentum right back to the Knights. Marian continued to hammer the ball down on the Goshen's side of the net, leaving the guest searching for an answer, but were unable to respond to the Knight's dominant performance in the set.

The Knights had to battle it out in the third set to claim the victory. Marian got the early jump, taking the 13-6 lead, but Goshen would find a spark and win the next five points to cut the lead down to 13-11 and forcing a Marian timeout. After the break, Brooks got the Knights going again after a kill on the assist from Ainsley Neighbors. The two teams continued to trade points with Goshen going on a 4-0 run late to even things up at 18-18. Marian was able to keep their cool and hold on as Avery Toole and Van Note answered with a pair of kills to win the next two points. Goshen responded with a kill, but Sarah Bennett stepped up and hammered one down to get the Knights going again. After a few Goshen errors and a pair of kills from Van Note, Marian took the set 25-21 to win the match.

Van Note led the team with 18 kills on .567 kill percentage, while Fish added seven kills and  Summers had four. Hardegree led in the assist category, dishing out 24 assists, while picking up 10 digs and two service aces. Emma Lyons proved to be a master at serving, notching four aces and collecting seven digs. Feld posted a team-high 13 digs and served up three aces, while Neighbors also added three aces and 14 assists.

The Knights return to action September 21 at 7 PM as they travel to Bethel.
