Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Marian men's cross country team competed for the fourth consecutive week on Saturday morning, running in the Maroon race at the annual NAIA Great Lakes Challenge. The Knights finished 13th in the field of 27 teams, with
Blake Hipkiss leading the Knights for the second consecutive week with his 11th place finish.
Indiana Wesleyan won the meet as they had four of the top-10 runners in the race, followed by the Cumberlands, Grace, Goshen, and St. Francis (Ill.). Marian was the fourth Crossroads League team to place in the event, and scored wins over Spring Arbor and Mount Vernon Nazarene within the conference. Marian's 13th place finish came with a team score of 333, with Hipkiss' performance helping the team scoring.
Blake Hipkiss continued his tear on the course as he finished 11th overall, clocking a time of 25:06 with a 3:08 time per kilometer. Hipkiss' second consecutive top-20 finish help pace the upperclassman as the postseason looms for Marian.
Tristan Trevino was Marian's second finisher as he placed 71st overall, turning in a time of 25:58. Trevino was followed to the line by Robin Aguliar-Gonzalez, who finished 78th with his time of 26:08.
Benjamin Moster and
Clark Chustz cracked the top-100 finishers in the race, with Moster placing 92nd in a time of 26:21, while Chustz finished one place and two seconds behind his teammate.
The Knights' sixth finisher was
Nick Frank who placed 112th overall, running a time of 26:35.
Robert Lohman was the final Knight to factor into the team score, with his 124th place finish ending in a time of 26:45.
Aaron Broderick,
Adam Heitz, and
Lucas Steward also ran for the Knights, placing 127th, 138th, and 182nd, respectively.
Marian will now use the next two weeks to prepare for the Crossroads League Championships, which take place on November 3 at Taylor University.
