Knights Move to Crossroads League Semifinals with 6-1 Win Over Goshen

INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian men's tennis team won their fourth straight, starting out the Crossroads League Tournament with a strong 6-1 victory over Goshen. The Knights stand at 7-2 overall this fall, as they advance to the semifinal round.

Marian took the first point of the match, jumping on top of the Maple Leafs in the match by taking the doubles point. James Ashworth and Jones McNamar made quick work of their match at No. 2 doubles, winning by a score of 6-2 over Matija Margetic and Pedro Scattolon. The point was clinched moments later, as Andrew Ilett and Borja Delgado were victorious at No. 1 over Fllippo Gallo and Insee Akarapan, as the duo won 6-3. The Knights pair of Marc Soriano and Shadi Al Tori went unfinished in their match at No. 3 doubles, as they were leading 4-3.

In singles, Luis Sobanski paced Marian as he claimed the first win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the No. 3 position against Scattolon. Goshen would pick up a win at No. 1 singles, as Delgado went down to Gallo 7-5, 6-0. At No. 4, Ilett picked up a commanding 6-1, 6-2 win over Gomez, while Ashworth scored the winning point in the match with his 3-6, 6-3, 6-3  over Margetic win at No. 2 singles. Jona Henze grabbed the 6-1, 6-0 victory over Akarapan at the No. 5 spot, while Soriano defeated Brandon Lomas at No. 6 singles with his 6-1, 6-0 victory. 

The Knights will advance to the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals on Thursday, traveling to Huntington to play against the No. 2 seed Foresters. The time for Thursday's match will be announced to the schedule later tonight.
