INDIANAPOLIS – The Marian women's tennis team notched their seventh straight win Tuesday afternoon, as the Knights blanked Goshen 7-0 in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. The win gives Marian an 7-2 overall record, as they advance to the tournament semifinals for the 13th consecutive season.
The Knights made quick work through doubles play with Isadora Muller and Caceres Villalba Paloma defeated Morgan Priebe and Meaghan Godzisz 6-0 at the No. 3 spot, before Ana Barbosa Fernandez and Michelle Irigoyen clinched the doubles point with their 6-2 victory over Sude Aytekin and Carmen Aliaga at No. 2 doubles. Yasmin Imamniyazova and Kathraina Bopst were leading 5-3 in their match against Bodo Blanka and Sozfia Kallai before the doubles point was clinched.
Emma Chrome scored Marian's first point in singles, winning in straight sets with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Godzisz at No. 4 singles. Irigoyen followed up with the win at the No. 3 spot, downing Bodo 6-2, 6-3, while Barbosa Fernandez clinched the match moments later at the No. 2 spot with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kallai. Imamniyazova continued Marian's wins with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Aytekin at No. 1 singles, and soon after came Bopst picking up the win at the No. 5 spot over Aliaga with the 6-4, 6-0 win. Caceres Villalba wrapped things up for the Knights at the No. 6 spot, as she won 6-0, 6-0.
Marian will now play Thursday as they travel to Bethel at 11 a.m. for the Crossroads League Semifinals.
