MARION, Ind. - The Marian women's team fought hard but were unable to overcome a strong Indiana Wesleyan team as they fell 4-2 Monday afternoon in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship. Marian ends the fall season with a 8-3 overall record.
Indiana Wesleyan got two quick wins in doubles, earning wins at the No. 1 and 2 spots.
Yasmin Imamniyazova and
Katharina Bopst went down 6-2 at the No. 1 spot against France Antezana and Sofia Munoz. At No. 2 doubles,
Michelle Irigoyen and
Ana Barbosa Fernandez picked up a couple games against Breann Barger and Katie Parr, but ultimately went down 6-2.
Isadora Muller and
Paloma Caceres Villalba were tied 3-3 to Ellie Snider and Maria Way at the No. 3 spot before the doubles point was clinched.
In singles, the Wildcats continued their wins by picking up the first two wins. Munoz defeated Imamniyazova 6-4, 6-0 at No.1 singles, while Barbosa Fernandez fell to Antezana 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. Caceres grabbed the first win for the Knights with her 6-2, 6-4 win over Parr at the No. 6 spot, while Irigoyen put Marian within one after she defeated Way 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot. However, Marian could not overcome their deficit as Emma Chrome fell 6-2, 6-3 to Snider at the No. 4 spot and the Wildcats would go on to win 4-2.
On the court that was unfinished, Bopst was in a third set score of 2-6, 6-1, 2-5 to Barger at No. 5 singles.
