Louisville, Ky. - The Marian women's tennis team began their spring season on a sour note, losing their first match since October at the hands of Bellarmine University by a 6-1 final count. Marian is 8-4 on the season.
The Bellarmine Knights swept their Indiana counterparts in doubles play, as Marian fell on each of the three courts.
Katharina Bopst and
Michelle Irigoyen were defeated 6-1 at No. 1, and at No. 3
Isadora Muller and
Paloma Caceres Villalba also were defeated by a 6-1 count.
Yasmin Imamniyazova and
Ana Barbosa Fernandez put up the toughest battle, but were defeated 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
Barbosa claimed Marian's only win of the day in singles as she claimed the win at No. 2 singles, defeating Vendula Kryslova 6-2, 0-6, 6-4. Imamniyazova was defeated at No. 1 6-2, 6-0, Irigoyen lost at No. 3 6-0, 6-3, and Bopst lost challenging at No. 4 6-2, 6-3. Villalba was defeated 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and Muller lost 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6 singles to end the match.Â
Marian will play their final match before their spring break trip on Sunday, hosting Oakland City at 12:30 p.m. at the Indy Healthplex.
