Columbia, Ky. - The Marian wrestling team competed at the annual NAIA Challenge Duals on Sunday, posting a 1-3 record as the Knights lineup was comprised of a JV unit. Marian competed against four teams appearing in the NAIA Top-25 poll, earning their lone win over (RV) Rio Grande.
Marian vs Reinhardt | 47-3 Eagles
The Knights lone win of the match against Reinhardt came from
Anthony Hughes at 133, who earned a 10-4 win by decision against Easton Bishop. The Knights suffered five defeats by fall and forfeited at 141, helping the Eagles score 36 of their 47 points.
Will Stewart and Jeff Dunasky both lost by decision, and
Ty Haskins fell by tech fall in his match.
Marian vs Lindsey Wilson | 32-9 Blue Raiders
Marian earned three wins in the match against Lindsey Wilson, with
Noah Hollendonner at 165 taking the first of the three wins with his 7-1 win by decision over Trevor Pogue. Dunasky earned a 3-2 win by decision moving up to 174 for the match against the Blue Raiders, and
Will Stewart picked up a 4-0 win over Devon Rahrig at 184. Dunasky's win came over No. 7 Cory Cannan. The Knights faired better against the Blue Raiders, suffering just one loss by fall in the match.
Marian vs Rio Grande | 29-22 Knights
The Knights won each of their first two matches against the Red Storm, as
Ty Haskins recorded a tech fall win at 125 and Hughes scored a win by fall in 49 seconds at 133. The Red Storm earned Marian's forfeited win at 141 and scored wins at 149 and 157, but Hollendonner got Marian in rhythm with his win by fall at 165.
James Lacey scored a first period win by fall at 174, and
Will Stewart won by fall as well at 184, clinching the win for Marian.
Liam Begley and
Andrew Just would both suffer losses at 197 and 285, as Marian hung on to their seven point win.
Marian vs Cumberlands | 42-9 Patriots
Marian earned a pair of wins against the Patriots, with Hughes and Just scoring the wins for the team. Hughes won in a 9-6 sudden victory against 25th ranked Chandlar Akins, while
Andrew Just won by fall against Austin Silva at 285. The results mirrored the loss to Reinhardt, as the Knights fell by fall in four of the 10 matches, while forfeiting at 141.
Marian will next compete in the Reno Tournament of Champions on Sunday, December 17, in Reno, Nevada.
