MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Marian women's softball remained perfect in Florida after defeating Cleary 6-3 in the morning before downing Lawrence Tech in their second game 8-1. The Knights are now 9-1 on the season going into the final day of their spring break trip tomorrow. 

Marian 6-3 Cleary

The Knights kicked off game one with a bang, as Hayley Greene drove in two RBI after Savannah Harweger led off the frame with a base hit and Jenna Minnix walked. Cleary responded in inning two with a single to right field that sent two runners in to even the score at 2-2.

After being shutout in the second inning, Marian got their offensive going again from Greene with two more RBI, followed by Grace Meyer hitting the triple to left field to send in Greene to take the 5-2 lead. Sydney Wilson allowed just one hit in the next three innings to help her team stay up three.

Marian was able to tack on another run in the bottom of the sixth after Harweger had the sac fly to center field with bases loaded to extend her team's lead to 6-2. Cleary managed to get on base after a single before scoring moments later. However, Wilson forced the batter to pop out before Harweger made the play to Caitlyn Phillips at second base to close out the game 6-3.

Wilson moved to 4-0 on the year in the circle after throwing seven innings. Harweger had three of the Knights' nine hits in the win and scored twice, while Greene had four RBI and two hits. Minnix, Meyer, Anna Pritchett, and Phillips each added a hit.

Marian 8-1 Lawrence Tech

Scoreless through the first three innings, the Knights made up for it in the fourth inning when Meyer tripled to left center, sending in Greene who walked previously. Two batters later, Abby Madere hit the sacrifice fly for the RBI. Olivia Stunkel continued her perfect start by a quick three up three down to help Marian maintain the 2-0 lead.

Marian's bats kept hot in the fifth and sixth inning as Meyer made something happen again when she hit the single to left center where she eventually advanced to second on the throw. Meyer's hit pushed Greene up to third and Norman home to extend the lead to 3-0. The Knights packed onto their lead with four runs in the sixth as Anna Pritchett started the small scoring frenzy with an RBI. Lily Wendt stepped in to pinch hit, singling down the left field line to send in both Harweger and Pritchett before Norman finished off the inning with an RBI.

Jayla Guilliam came in to relieve Stunkel in the bottom of the sixth, but gave up the first run to the Blue Devils after a sacrifice fly to center. Guilliam ended the inning with the foul out to send Marian into the final inning up 7-1.

The Knights registered one hit in their final at bat as Wendt had the RBI off the sacrifice fly before Guilliam finished off the game to give Marian the 8-1 win.

Marian erupted for 15 hits in the win with Meyer, Harweger, and Pritchett recording three hits, while Norman added two and Wendt led the team with three RBI. Stunkel picked up her fourth win of the year after striking out five batters in her five innings pitched, while Guilliam pitched the final two innings.

Marian will wrap up their Florida trip with a pair of games tomorrow, starting with Lourdes at 9 a.m. and Concordia (Mich.) at 11 a.m.
