Marian Remains Undefeated in WHAC Play with 17-7 Decision Over Siena Heights

Adrian, Mich. – The Marian women's lacrosse team continued their tear through the WHAC as they picked up the 17-7 victory over Siena Heights to remain undefeated in conference play at 3-0. The the Knights win their fifth straight as they improve to 8-2 on the season and head coach Allie Storke-Sneed sets a milestone for most wins in a season in her coaching career. 

Ella Grace Giedd got the action started by scoring the first goal of the game less than two minutes in. Siena Heights tried to answer a few minutes later, but Katherine Hirsch picked up the save to keep it 1-0. Giedd picked up her second goal at the eight-minute mark before Ashlynn Gray executed on the free position shot to extend their lead to 3-0. The Knights saw two good looks in the final 30 seconds however the Saints' goalie managed to make the save.

Marian added another goal to their lead after Grace Martin scored on the assist from Madison Ash before the Saints answered with their first goal of the game with 11:30 remaining in the second quarter. Ash and Anna Moore teamed up around a minute and a half later as Ash scored her first goal of the game. Marian extended their lead to 6-1 after Katelynn Gray scored on the free position, but back-to-back goals from the Saints cut their deficit to three. The Knights had the last say of the half as Ashlynn Gray hit the back netting with 35 seconds to guide her team to the 7-3 advantage at the break.

Ash wasted no time as Ashlynn Gray found her for the goal 12 seconds into the third quarter. The hosts had a quick answer with a goal to make it 8-4. With 11:41 left to play in the quarter, Marian put together a scoring frenzy as they notched five goals in less than two minutes. Giedd started the flurry of goals before Ruby Mason, Martin, Ashlynn Gray, and Katelynn Gray all added a goal to extend Marian's lead to 13-4. Siena Heights tried to answer but were unable to execute as Hirsch picked up the save. In the final seven minutes, the Knights scored three more goals to pack onto their lead with Martin, Lizzie Piercy, and Giedd all recording a score.

Marian erupted for nine goals in the third quarter to hold the 16-4 lead going into the final quarter.

The scoring slowed down for the Knights in the fourth quarter as the first goal was not scored until the 7:36 mark when Martin picked up her fourth goal of the game on the assist from Mason. The Saints continued their fight, registering the final three goals of the game. However, with the large lead at hand, the Knights would run away with the 17-7 win.

Martin and Giedd led the Knights with four goals, while Ashlynn Gray posted the hat trick. Katelynn Gray and Ash each scored twice, while Mason and Piercy each added a goal. Giedd and Mason both dished out two assists and led the team in four ground balls each. In the Saints' 25 turnovers, Marian caused 12, with four different players recording two caused turnovers. Hirsch picked up the win in the cage as she picked up four saves, improving to 8-2 on the season. 

Marian will return home for their next game to host Aquinas at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
