INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian men's tennis team dropped their second consecutive match Friday afternoon, falling to No. 17 Lindsey Wilson on their home courts. The Knights loss drops the team to 16-10 overall this season.
At doubles the Blue Raiders earned two of three wins to take the first point of the match, successfully winning at No. 1 and No. 2.
Shadi Al Tori and
Andrew Ilett were defeated at No. 1 by Joaquin Mersch and Santiago Diaz 6-2, and at No. 2 Lucas Marques and Jan Silhavy were able to outlast
Ashwin Bhat and
Jones McNamar 7-5.
Mark Griffin and
Jona Henze put up a fight at No. 3 doubles, but went unfinished in their match against Tiago Almeida and Firas Ben Chouikha leading 6-5.Â
Trailing going into singles, Ilett was able to tie the match score as he earned a quick two-set win over Chouikha with 6-3, 6-4 set scores. Almeida would rally Lindsey Wilson back into the lead at No. 2 singles as he defeated
Dmitrii Voshchenkov 7-5, 6-1, and at No. 1 singles Griffin lost a three-set fight to Silhavy, falling 7-6 (2), 2-6, 3-6. After Griffin's defeat the Blue Raiders led 3-1, scoring the clinching point at No. 4 singles with Bhat falling in three sets Ilyas Kouchairi 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.Â
The match finished with McNamar playing at No. 6 and Henze playing at No. 5. McNamar was able to score Marian's second point of the match with his 6-2, 7-5 win over Diaz, however Henze was unsuccessful in a lengthy three-set bout, falling to Marques 6-4, 6-7 (1), 0-1 (9).Â
Marian will aim to get back in the win column on Sunday afternoon as they host their senior day against IU-Southeast. The match begins at 2 p.m. with senior festivites taking place at approximately 1:45 p.m.
