INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's tennis team was handed a 7-0 loss on Friday afternoon to No. 13 Lindsey Wilson, ending their three-match winning streak. The Blue Raiders win drops the Knights to 18-9 overall on the season.
Marian fell quickly in doubles play, as Lindsey Wilson scored quick wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Betija Dusele and
Katharina Bopst lost at No. 1 by a 6-2 score, and at No. 2
Dana Savarino and
Tea Vrkic were defeated 6-3. As the point was clinched,
Isadora Muller and
Emma Chrome's match at No. 3 doubles went unfinished, as the duo trailed 3-2 against Darija Mladenovic and Reshma Challarapu.
In singles, Marian put up a fight playing in three tiebreakers, but were unsuccessful as they lost in order on the court. Dusele fell at No. 1 singles to Mladenovic in a 6-2, 6-3 match, and at No. 2 singles Bopst was able to claim a win as she scored a second set win, but ultimately lost 1-6, 6-4, 0-1 (10-3). Lindsey Wilson would clinch the match at No. 3 singles as Chrome too fell in three sets, losing 2-6, 6-3, 0-1 (10-8).
Muller put up a fight in her match at No. 4 singles, but after dropping the first set 7-6 (8-6) against Anastasiia Ivanchenk, she would go on to lose the second by a 6-2 count.
Dana Savarino came up empty in her match at No. 5 singles falling 6-1, 6-2 against Heyka Rodriguez, and at No. 6 singles Mayra Gisone defeated the Knights'
Joelle Leihbacher 6-2, 7-5, ending the match.
Marian will aim to bounce back on Sunday with a win as they host IU-Southeast for their senior day match at 2 p.m. Senior festivities will begin at 1:45 p.m.
