ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Marian lacrosse team netted a season-high 23 goals in a dominant performance, as the Knights rolled past Rochester on Friday afternoon. Marian's win is their third straight, giving them the 11-3 overall record and 6-1 in WHAC play.
The scoring began almost immediately for Marian when Madison Ash got the feed from Grace Martin to get on the board, followed by Ella Grace Giedd scoring goal number two of the game in at the 13:37 mark. A little over a minute went by before Emily Blackburn began her tear. The sophomore attacker picked up the hat trick during the last 12 minutes of action, giving the Knights the 5-0 lead. With nine seconds on the clock, Katelynn Gray executed on the free position shot to expand Marian's lead to 6-0 after quarter one.
Madeline Dumke, Lizzie Piercy, Kate. Gray, and Anna Moore continued the charge for Marian in the second quarter, as they drove their goal total to double digits with 7:38 to play. Aliyah Evans and Ashlynn Gray got in on the action, as they scored the next three with Evans registering a pair. The scoring was not finished for the Knights with Martin and Taleah Nool each netting a goal before the end of the half.
Rochester had no answer as the Knights erupted for 15 total goals in the first half. Marian's defense was also on lockdown mode, allowing zero shots in the first half.
Marian would keep their foot on the gas with Nool scoring her first of two goals in the quarter to put Marian ahead 16-0, before back-to-back goals from Piercy, a goal from Jada Taylor, and Nool with 36 seconds left gave the Knights their 20th goal.
The Warriors ended Marian's hopes of the shutout, scoring their first goal of the game at the 13:02 mark, but Tori Farkas responded with a goal of her own on the assist from Ash. Gray. With under four minutes to go in the game, two more Knights finished the scoring with Mallory Miranda and Hayli Irvin netting one past the Rochester goalie.
Blackburn, Nool, and Piercy led Marian in their 23-1 victory, each recording the hat trick. Kate. Gray and Evans each netted two goals, while ten Knights added one goal. Five different players dished out two assists, while Kate. Gray led Marian defensively as she caused three turnovers and Miranda added two. Katherine Hrisch and Grace Coyne each played in cage, while Hirsch picked up the win and picked up one save.
Marian will be on the road one last time this regular season, as they travel to Bethel on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. contest.
