INDIANAPOLIS - Coming off of a physical win in their home opening game last Saturday night against St. Xavier, the Marian football team has their eyes set on Olivet Nazarene this Saturday afternoon. Kickoff between the Knights and Tigers is set for 1:05 p.m. from St. Vincent Field, as Marian plays their second of five home games this season.
THE GAME AND THE SERIES
The series between the Knights and Tigers has largely favored Marian, as the Knights have an all-time record against Olivet Nazarene of 6-0. Marian has not played against Olivet Nazarene since 2018, when the Knights won the last matchup 24-6 at St. Vincent Field.
In the 2018 matchup, Marian pulled ahead 17-0 behind a pair of touchdown passes from Luke Johnston, and in the fourth quarter backup quarterback Frankie Young threw a short screen to Johnny William to ice the game. Olivet Nazarene would score a late touchdown in the matchup, but were unable to continue a rally as Marian completed the victory. The two sides also matched up in 2017 with Marian winning in Bourbonnais, and before then there were four previous matchups, all in Coach Ted Karras' first stint with the Knights. Marian won those four matchups under Coach Karras by a margin of 35.5 points per game, with the Knights recording three shutouts in four seasons.
Saturday's game will be Marian's final non-conference matchup of the season.
