FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Marian men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season slate of their Crossroads League schedule with the 7-0 sweep over Saint Francis (Ind.) The win improves the Knights' record to 6-2 on the season.
Max Sternberg and
Isaac Lian got Marian started off hot with their 6-1 win over Devon McCaffery and Martin Maurant at No. 3 doubles, before the Cougars evened the score with Alfredo Huamani Tello and Enzo Bozonnet defeating
Iyan Cresens and
Ben O'Brien at the No. 2 spot 6-2. The Knights clinched the doubles point after
Marc Soriano and
Shadi Al Tori took down Quentin Spears and Eric Stavnheim 6-1 at No.1 doubles.
Marian rolled through singles play, with
Jones McNamar grabbing the 6-2, 6-0 win over Stavnheim at No. 2 singles, before Sternberg took down Maurant 6-3, 6-4. At No. 4 singles. Al Tori picked up the 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) against Huamani Tello at No. 1 singles, while O'Brien won in three sets at the No. 3 spot. O'Brien won 4-6, 6-2, 4-0 (ret.) over McCaffrey. Lian and Cresens grabbed the final two wins for Marian to complete the sweep, as Lian defeated Bozonnet 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot, and Cresens won 6-1, 6-0 over Jeramiah Jacobs at the No. 6 spot.
Marian will be back in action September 27-30 for the ITA Tournament before hosting Goshen on October 3 for the Crossroads League Quarterfinals.
