Knights Score Twice in Second Half to Earn 2-2 Draw with Taylor

INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 6-ranked Marian women's soccer team scored twice late in the second half, which led to a 2-2 draw with (RV) Taylor Saturday night.  After the match, the Knights improve to 8-1-2 on the year and 1-1-1 in Crossroads League play.

The first 15 minutes of play were fairly even on both sides of the pitch until Taylor started to control possession and become more aggressive around the 17th minute, earning a corner kick. A few minutes later, the Trojans put together a pair of shot attempts that ended blocked and wide. Taylor put their first shot on frame at the 33:14 mark, but Mycheala Johnson would deny they attempt and leave the score at 0-0. After a run made by the Trojans, Marian found themselves back with the ball as Kylie Conrad and Kaitlyn Lavezzi fired off shots.

With around five minutes left to play in the first half, the guests put together four corner kicks and a shot on goal, but once again it was Johnson coming up with the save. However, Johnson and the Marian defense fell short in the 44th minute as Taylor scored the game's first goal to take the 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Marian's offense was held to five shots and one corner kick, while Taylor posted eight shots and six corner kicks.

The Trojans came out looking to extend their lead in the second half, and they did just that at the 47:04 mark to grab the 2-0 lead. Taylor's offense continued to stay aggressive after their second goal, going for four more shots. Marian struggled to hold possession in the second half, as the visitors fired off seven shots before the Knights had their first attempt in the 77th minute. Despite the slow offense from the Knights, Sophie Decker put the first score on the scoreboard for Marian at 77:02 to cut her team's deficit to 2-1. With time running out, it began to look like the Trojans might walk away with the 2-1 victory. However, in the 87th minute, Katie Koger blasted the equalizer in the back of the net on the assist from Conrad.

In Marian's 2-2 tie, Delaney Taylor and Conrad led with two shots. Decker, Koger, Lavezzi, and Mallin all had one attempt, while Decker and Koger each scored a goal. Conrad had the lone assist for the Knights. Johnson played the full 90 minutes in goal, making five saves and allowing two goals.

Marian will return to action on October 7 when they travel to Grace for a 2 p.m. contest.
