Sylvania, Ohio - The Marian wrestling team suffered their sixth dual loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, as the Knights opened WHAC competition on the losing end of a 27-24 dual against Lourdes. Marian is 3-6 overall on the season and 0-1 in conference competition.
The Knights started the day playing from behind, as
Logan Richardson lost by tech fall in the opening match at 125 in a 22-6 score against No. 6 Nick Rodriguez.
Anthony Hughes responded with a win for Marian and made the score 5-3, as he defeated Cole McKinley 10-3.
Logan Wagner kept the wins going with his win by fall at 141, taking down Dru Wilson in 2:32.
Seth Johnson would finish a three-match swing for the Knights as he won at 149, claiming a win by fall over Marcus Cortez in 2:35.
The Knights led 15-5 after the three match string, but let the score draw closer as
Zach Wilson was defeated 25-10 as Andrew Torres landed a tech fall victory.
Jeff Dunasky Jr. would score six points for Marian as he won by forfeit, and
Noah Hollendonner earned a 13-6 victory over Dominico Migliori to add to the team score.
Hollendonner's win gave Marian a 24-10 lead in the match, but the match score quickly turned in favor of the Gray Wolves, as Lourdes won the final three bouts of the day in a high-scoring style. Second-ranked wrestler in the NAIA at 184 lbs. William Speight defeated
Peter Sells with a commanding 17-2 victory, and at 197
Liam Begley lost by fall in 96 seconds against No. 19 Carter Kroll. Lourdes trailed by three points after the 197 weight class, and completed their come-from-behind win at 285, as Tyler Cobb won by fall against
Excell Brooks, scoring enough points necessary to claim a 27-24 win.
Marian will wrestle again on Tuesday as their stretch of matches continue, with the Knights taking on both Cornerstone and Cleary in Grand Rapids.Â
