Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Marian wrestling team got back in the win column on Tuesday night, earning two wins against WHAC competition in a tri-match at Cornerstone. Marian took down the hosts Cornerstone 28-19, while dominating Cleary 60-0 for their first shutout of the year. Marian is 2-1 against the WHAC this season, and 5-6 overall on the season.
Marian 28-19 Cornerstone
The Knights played from behind on the scoreboard as their match started against Cornerstone, with the Golden Eagles securing wins in their first two matches.
Logan Richardson (125) fell in an 11-1 major decision, and
Anthony Hughes (133) was taken down in an 8-7 decision against Devan Johnson. The Knights first win of the match came by forfeit at 141 with
Logan Wagner getting the free hand raise, setting up the first win on the match as
Seth Johnson (149) won 9-0 over Luke Jaworski.
Johnson's win gave Marian a 10-7 lead in the match, but the Golden Eagles responded with a win at 157 as
Zach Wilson fell to Thade Radosa in a 4:21 pin. The Knights got the six points back at 165 as
Jeff Dunasky Jr. won by forfeit, and
Noah Hollendonner added five points to the team score with his 19-3 tech fall win over Cooper Mansfield.
Peter Sells (184) would suffer a loss by fall, but Marian ended the match on a strong note taking both the 197 and 285 matches.
Liam Begley won 14-10 against Jackson Turner to help put the finishing touches on the match, and
Excell Brooks ended the match strong with a 13-0 major decision win over Stephos Georgiou.Â
Marian improved to 2-0 over Cornerstone with the win, remaining undefeated against the newest member of the WHAC wrestling family.

The Knights earned a shutout win over the Cougars, landing their first shutout of the season.

Liam Begley (197) all earned wins by forfeit to score 24 points, and the first points on the mat came from
Logan Wagner (141) who won by fall in 2:16.
Seth Johnson (149) won by fall against Carson Boisvert in 1:57, and
Zach Wilson (157) followed with a win by fall in 3:00.
Marian continued to earn wins by fall, as
Noah Hollendonner (174) took down Lenton Patrick in 2:22, and
Peter Sells (184) won by fall in 2:16 against Tyler Brooks.
Excell Brooks (285) finished the win for Marian with his win by fall over Roberto Perez in 2:14.
The perfect 60-0 final score is the first for Marian in program history.
Marian returns to action on Friday and Saturday, competing at the annual Missouri Valley Invite in Marshall, Missouri.
