Knights Shutout Cougars in Last Home Game of the Regular Season

Indianapolis, Ind.- The Marian women's soccer team clinched a 5-0 shutout win in their final home game of the regular season over the Mt. Vernon Cougars. The Knights are now 13-2-2 overall on the season and 6-1-1 in the Crossroads League.

Katie Koger opened the first half with a goal in the sixth minute of play to claim the early 1-0 lead. The Knights ticked off three shots on goal with Layla Brown, Kaitlyn Lavezzi, and Erin Kelly all tabbing a shot each but came up short with Hannah Miller claiming the saves. Sienna Mullen got her chance hitting the back of the net to increase the lead 2-0 and end the first half.

Olivia Parmer opened up the second half with a shot on goal but came up short against Miller's defense. Lizzie Chlystun passed the ball to Gretchen Mallin who got the ball in the back of the net to increase the Knights lead 3-0. Katie Koger took her chance but was to no avail with her shot on goal to increase the lead. Brown took advantage of a foul drew by the Cougars to take a penalty kick to increase Marians lead 4-0. Chlystun took her chance again but came short in the battle at the net before taking a pass from Olivia Hernandez shortly after to claim the final goal of the game to secure the 5-0 win over Mt. Vernon.

Layla Brown led the team in shots with six and two on goal while Koger and Chlystun both claimed three shots with two on goal. In goal Mycheala Johnson claimed the win and one save on the evening.

The Knights finish off their regular season on the road on Wednesday, October 30th as they travel to Huntington to take on the Foresters at 7:00 p.m.
