Mishawaka, Ind. - The Marian women's tennis team saw their fall season come to an end on Saturday afternoon, as Bethel clipped Marian by a 4-3 score in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship match. The Knights end the fall season with a 9-2 overall record, finishing as both the runner-up in the regular season and tournament.
In doubles action,
Yasmin Imamniyazova and
Ana Barbosa Fernandez finished first at No. 2 doubles with a 6-3 win over the Pilots.
Michelle Irigoyen and
Ana Lopez Torres were the next to finish at No. 1 doubles, falling in a final score of 2-6.
Liliane Alinquant and
Paloma Caceres Villalba put up a tough fight in hopes of claiming the doubles point for Marian but ended up falling at No. 3 with final counts of, 6-7 and 2-7.
In singles play Lopez Torres was the first to finish falling at No. 3 with final counts of 2-6 and 3-6. With the home team up 2-0 Caceres Villalba fought back with a 6-4 and 6-1 win at No. 6 to decrease the Pilots lead. Imamniyazova leveled the match with a win at No. 1 with final counts of 6-3 and 6-4. With the match at a tie Alinquant took a defeat at No. 5 singles with final counts of 4-6 and 0-6. Irigoyen took charge to bottleneck the match once more with a 7-5 and 6-4 win at No. 2. After a hard fight at No.4 singles Barbosa Fernandez fell at No. 4 with final counts of 6-7 (1-10), 6-4, and 4-6.
The Knights finish off their fall season as Crossroads League Runner-Up in both the regular season and tournament. Marian will return to play in the spring, with expected return to action slated for mid-February.
