Layla Brown Sends Marian to CL Title With Late Game Heroics

Indianapolis, Ind.- The Marian women's soccer team won in a nail-biting matchup with the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats 1-0 on Saturday evening. The Knights are now 16-2-2 overall on the season.

The first half was very shot and defense heavy on both sides of the field. Lizzie Chlystun opened the game with a shot that was blocked by the Wildcat defense. Indiana Wesleyan answered with two shots on target that were saved by Mycheala Johnson's efforts. Sienna Mullen took her chance at a goal but came up short with the Wildcats efforts. The Knights took three more chances with Chlystun, Kaitlyn Lavezzi, and Marian Corro Celma all claimed shots on goal before the Wildcats drew a yellow card at the 31' mark. Both sides traded the ball but came up short to end the half with a score of 0-0.

Marian opened the second half up with seven shots in a row from Katie Koger, Chlystun, Lavezzi, Layla Brown, and Hernandez but all came up short. The Wildcats answered with a shot that was a tad too high. Olivia Parmer, Chlystun, and Koger took a shot in a row each but came up short against the Wildcats goalie. The Knights took two more shots on target but were saved by the goalie from Cecelia Kostick and Chlystun. Marian played through a potentially missed handball to allow Olivia Parmer the cross to Layla Brown to seal the deal and punch their ticket to the Crossroads League Championships.

Lizzie Chlystun led the team in shots this evening with six shots and four being on goal. Lavezzi, Brown, Koger, and Hernandez all had two shots on the evening aswell. In goal Mycheala Johnson took the win claiming four saves on the evening,
