No.15 Marian Falls to No.10 Georgetown

Georgetown, Ky. - The Marian women's basketball team fell 57-76 to No. 10 Georgetown Tigers on the road Saturday afternoon. The Knights are now 10-2 overall on the season and 4-0 in the Crossroads League.

Taylor Double opened up the first quarter with a three to secure the Knights first lead of the game but the Tigers quickly followed up with a three to bring the game to a standstill. Abbey McNally's pair of layups and Kenna Kirby's singular layup helped Marian maintain their lead bringing the score 9-8 before Georgetown answered with free throws to take the lead into their own hands. McNally continued to fire for Marian with a layup to take back the lead with 5:29 remaining in the quarter. Kirby and Double each claimed a three-point jump shot to increase the margin by five. The Tigers fought back with a layup followed by a free throw off of a Marian foul to decrease the margin to two points with a minute and a half remaining. McNally was the last to fire in the quarter with a free throw to bring the score 18-15 in favor of the Knights. 

Double and McNally opened up the second quarter with a Taylor's three and Abbey's layup to increase the lead to eight. The Tigers were able to benefit off of a Marian foul to shoot a pair of free throws bringing the score 23-17. Kiley McNally got her hand in the mix with back-to-back layups to increase Marian's double-digit lead. Georgetown attempted to chip away at Marian's push with a layup but Abbey McNally countered with a free throw. The Tigers attacked once more with a free throw off of a Marian foul as well as a three-pointer to bring the margin down to five. Double fought back with a jump shot and a layup to increase the Knights lead 32-23 and draw a Georgetown timeout at the 3:19 mark. Out of the timeout, the home team fired off a three but came up short with Double and Zoe Wheeler firing back with Taylor's layup and Zoe's jump shot to increase Marian's lead to double digits once more. With less than a minute left the Tigers fired a three-pointer bringing the score 36-29 going into the half.

Eva Fisher opened up the third quarter by attacking with free throws off of a Georgetown foul to increase Marian's lead to nine. The Tigers fired back with more effectiveness in the third quarter with five free throws and a pair of layups to bring the game to a tie for the first time since the first quarter at the 6:54 mark to draw a Marian timeout with the score set at 38-38.  Out of the timeout, Olivia Faust made a layup after rebounding off of her missed three but allowed the Tigers to shoot free throws off of a foul by Faust to once more tie the game. Double fired back with a jump shot to bring the score 42-40 right before the second Media Timeout was called. Georgetown once more benefitted off of a Marian foul to bring the score to a standstill with 4:21 remaining in the quarter. The home team struck once more with a free throw followed by a three-pointer jump shot and layup to secure the 48-42 lead over the Knights for the first time since the start of the game. Coming out of a 30-second Marian timeout, Georgetown fired with another layup but Emily Grim was able to attack with a layup with 1:14 left in the quarter. The Tigers were the next to attack with a three-pointer jumping shot to increase followed by a free throw to end the quarter 54-44. 

Abbey McNally opened up the fourth quarter with a free throw to decrease the Tigers' lead but Georgetown fought back extending their lead with a free throw followed by a jump shot to bring the score 58-45. Wheeler continued to chip away at the Tigers' lead with a layup but came up short with Georgetown's strike of a free throw and jump shot to increase their lead to 14 at the 5:07 mark. The home team continued to dominate with free throws to secure the largest lead of the day. Kirby struck down a free throw followed by a layup from Double to bring the score 63-50 to draw a Georgetown timeout. Out of the timeout, the Tigers fired off a layup and three-point jump shot to extend their lead to 18 points with 2:21 remaining on the clock. McNally and Madisyn Bailey fired off a layup from Abbey and a jumper from Madisyn to decrease the margin to 14 but were struck down once more with a three-pointer from the Tigers bringing the score 71-54 with 57 seconds remaining. Georgetown continued to capitalize on Marian's fouls to claim five more points off of free throws claiming the 76-57 win over the Knights.

Taylor Double led the team in points with 19 while Abbey McNally was close behind with 16. Abbey led the team in rebounds with 12 and led the team with three assists. Madisyn Bailey also had three assists in the game. McNally went 4-8 from the free throw line, Eva Fisher went 2-2, and Kenna Kirby went 1-2.

The Knights will be back in action on Monday, Dec. 16 as they take on Florida Memorial on the road in Adrian, Mich. at 6:00 p.m.
