INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's tennis team rebounded from their spring-opening loss on Friday with a win Sunday afternoon, as the Knights took down (RV) Oakland City by a 6-1 score. Marian is 9-4 overall on the season.
The Knights opened the match with a quick win in doubles, taking two of the three matches to begin the afternoon with a 1-0 lead.
Katharina Bopst and
Michelle Irigoyen won at No. 1 doubles by a 6-3 score, and
Isadora Muller and
Paloma Caceres Villalba won by a 6-2 score at No. 3 doubles to earn the point.
Yasmin Imamniyazova and Ana Barobsa Fernandez went unfinished in their match, leading 4-3.
In singles Marian won five of the six matches, starting with Barbosa's win at No. 2, as she landed a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Irigoyen won by identical 6-2, 6-2 scores at No. 3 singles, and at No. 1 singles Imamniyazova scored a 6-4, 6-1 victory to claim the win for the Knights.
Bopst earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to score the team's fifth point, and at No. 5 singles Caceres scored a three-set win, earning the 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 win.
Isadora Muller suffered the lone defeat of the day, falling at No. 6 singles in three sets by a 6-2, 6-7 (2), 1-0 (6) final count.Â
Marian will next play on March 4, starting their spring break matches with a contest against Lawrence Tech.
