INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian men's tennis team suffered their fourth consecutive loss and third loss of the spring season on Sunday afternoon, as Marian lost to No. 18 Oakland City 5-2, playing indoors at the Indy Healthplex. Marian is now 8-6 overall on the season.
Marian mustered just one victory during doubles, as they fell behind 1-0 losing two of the three matches. Marian's lone win came at No. 3 with
Marc Soriano and
Jona Henze claiming a 6-1 victory.
Andrew Ilett and
Jones McNamar lost 6-4 playing at No. 1 doubles, and
James Ashworth and
Iyan Cresens lost by the same score at No. 2.
The Knights scored their two points in the match in singles, winning at No. 5 and at No. 6. Ilett was the fifth finisher in the match, and claimed a 7-5, 6-3 win to claim Marian's first point of the day at No. 5 singles, while
Jan Bartolome won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles to end the match.Â
Ashworth fell at No. 1 singles in consecutive 6-4 sets, and at No. 2 Henze was defeated 6-2, 6-1.
Luis Sobanski put up a fight in his loss at No.3 winning the second set, but lost the match by an overall score of 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
Marc Soriano also lost in three sets, winning the first 7-6 before losing 6-3 and 1-0 at No. 4 singles.
Marian will next play on March 4, when they begin their spring break schedule in Hilton Head, South Carolina, taking on Lawrence Tech.
