INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's basketball team put on a scoring clinic on Friday night in the PE Center, as Marian rolled past St. Francis 107-60 in the Crossroads League Tournament Semifinals. The Knights' landslide victory punches their ticket to the championship with a 29-1 overall record.
A
Sara Majorosova three-point started the scoring party of Marian on Friday night, as the Knights started their wire-to-wire victory with the open three and inside dominance by
Abbey McNally, who put up a quick four points.
Allison Bosse's three-point make in the first quarter helped the opening blitz, and a 9-0 sparked by
Kinnidy Garrard helped Marian grow a sweltering 19-4 lead in under eight minutes of play. St. Francis could do little on offense to match Marian in the first quarter as they made just three shots from the field, with the Knights leading 21-11 after 10 minutes of play.
St. Francis started to catch a rhythm on offense in the waning moments of the first quarter as a Reganne Pate three-point make highlighted a 5-0 run, but the Cougars' field goal with 16 seconds to play in the first would be their last for seven minutes, as Marian's defense pestered the visitors. While the defense was locking down their opponent's offense, the Marian offensive output was as efficient as ever, with Marian shooing 85 percent in the second quarter alone. Marian made 12 shots from the field with
Ella Collier scoring 13 of her 15 first half points in the second stanza.Â
Tamia Perryman and
Aliyah Evans helped control the tempo in Marian's dominant second quarter, scoring or assisting on six of the 12 made field goals. A personal 8-0 run by Collier after St. Francis' drought from the field ended put Marian in charge 49-15, and after a pair of late scores were exchanged Marian led 51-18 at the half.
Marian's largest lead of the season at the half was followed by a 61 percent clip in the third quarter, as Marian drained four shots from downtown in the quarter. McNally, Garrard, and Perryman played key roles in the team's 27-point quarter, pushing the lead over 40 points in the third to lead 78-39 going into the final quarter.
In the final quarter Marian shot 64 percent from the floor, and as the bench rotated in the game found a scoring lift from
Kiley McNally, who attempted to match her sister by scoring 13 points in nine minutes of play.
Taylor Double and
Eva Fisher helped add to the scoring totals in the final period, as the Knights ended their one-sided victory on top 107-60.
As a team Marian shot 68.9 percent from the floor, and were led in scoring by Collier who ended the game with 24 points on a 6-6 shooting night from downtown.
Abbey McNally finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while her sister Kiley had 13 points and three rebounds.
Kinnidy Garrard finished the night with eight and
Allison Bosse scored 11, and
Sara Majorosova led the team with seven assists.Â
Marian will take on No. 2 seed Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League Tournament Championship on Monday night, taking on the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. in a rematch of the regular season title just 10 days ago.
