INDIANAPOLIS - The Marian women's lacrosse continue their conference hot streak with a 12-4 win over the Siena Heights University Saints. The Knights are now 5-3 overall and 3-0 in conference.
The Knights got off to an early lead with
Katelynn Gray scoring two goals in the first five minutes of play.
Ella Grace Giedd quickly followed with another goal to bring the score 3-0 and force the Saints to take a time-out.
Soon after their time-out Siena Heights got their first goal on the board after a free position shot. Gray followed up quickly to add onto the Knights lead with her third goal of the quarter from a free position shot to end the quarter 4-1 in favor of the Knights.
In the second quarter the goal started to slow down for the Knights with only two goals scored.
Katie Murphy scored the first goal of the quarter at the 11:15 mark to increase the lead for Marian.
Taleah Nool scored the final goal of the quarter at the 5:53 mark to finish off the quarter 6-1 in favor of the Knights.
After halftime Gray claimed her fourth goal of the day in within the first two minutes of the quarter.
Ruby Mason and Murphy followed up Gray in goals, Mason with two and Murphy with one to end out the third quarter 10-1 in favor of the home team.
The fourth quarter opened up with the Gray sisters both adding back-to-back goals to the board with
Katelynn Gray scoring a goal at the 14:39 mark and
Ashlynn Gray scoring her first goal of the game at the 10:59 mark to bring the score 12-1 in favor of Marian. In attempts to decrease the Knights lead the Saints scored three goals to end off the game 12-4 to allow Marian to secure the win.
Offensively for the Knights, K. Gray led the team in goals with five in the win. Giedd lead the team in assists with three while adding one goal for the evening. Marian dominated in the draw circle with 11 draw controls, and were led with five from A. Gray and three from
Madeline Dumke. Along with A. Gray leading the team in ground balls with seven and Dumke leading the team in caused turnovers with four.
In goal
Katherine Hirsch played three of the four quarters having seven saves. In
Grace Coyne's single quarter she had one save for the evening.
The Knights are back in action on Wednesday, March 27th on the road against Aquinas College (Mich.) with the first draw set at 4:00 p.m.
