INDIANAPOLIS - For the sixth consecutive match and the seventh time in their non-conference schedule, the Marian women's soccer team pitched a shutout, taking down the University of Jamestown 6-0 on Monday afternoon. Marian's win on Monday afternoon improves their overall record on the season to 7-1-1, concluding non-conference play on a three match winning streak.
Marian wasted little time taking control of the match, owning possession from the opening whistle.
Layla Brown fired the first shot of the game for Marian in the seventh minute, and in the 13th minute Marian found their second look on game, resulting in an early goal.
Kiley Jones fired a corner kick with perfect execution to
Naomi Walters, with the fifth-year senior sniping the opening score of the afternoon off the set play. 14 minutes later, Walters struck again, stealing a ball that was misplayed by the keeper and taking a quick touch before burying her second goal of the day.
Olivia Parmer added to Marian's lead in the 40th minute of the match, as the Knights' defense turned loose an opportunity that the speedy sophomore took over 50 yards down the field, striking from the right side of hte box to push Marian on top 3-0. The halftime score stood at 3-0, with Marian holding a 12-0 lead in shot attempts after 45 minutes of play.
In the second half, Marian continued to dominate, taking 14 shots throughout the period while allowing zero attempts for Jamestown. 12 minutes into the half, Marian scored their fourth goal of the contest, with
Marian Corro Celma scoring off a
Layla Brown pass, with the goal getting set up after
Jordan Love's shot redirected off the crossbar and found the feet of Brown. The fifth-year senior Brown would capitalize and score three minutes later, collecting a rebound from her own attempt and lightly sending the ball past the keeper for the team's fifth goal of the day.Â
The scoring for the match concluded in the 74th minute, as
Lauren Maresh collected her first collegiate goal with
Kaitlyn Lavezzi collecting the assist. Marian continued to stay aggressive until the end of the match, driving their final shot attempt of the game off the crossbar in the waning seconds of the 6-0 victory.
24 Knights saw action in the match, with 13 reserves taking the pitch during Marian's 6-0 win. Brown led Marian in shot attempts with five, taking four looks on goal as she scored and assisted in the win. Walters scored twice for Marian, and Corro Celma and Maresh each had a goal in the second half. Parmer was second on the team in the match with four shot attempts, scoring once, and
Kylie Conrad had four shot attempts in the game.
Lily Ames moved to 5-0-1 on the season in goal by logging first half action, while Mychaela Johnson played the second half, making her return after a six-match absence due to injury.
Marian will be idle until September 25, when Crossroads League play begins. The Knights will travel to No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan to open CL play, with opening kick coming at 7:00 p.m.
