Knights Continue Win Streak At Home With 3-1 Win Over Taylor

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Marian Volleyball team won Saturday afternoon 3-1 over Taylor at home. The Knights are now 14-2 overall and 5-1 in the Crossroads League.

Taylor took the lead early in the first set and didn't look back, going on a 4-0 rally early to take the four point lead. Gabby Fish broke the rally with a kill followed by an attack error on the Trojans to bring the score 4-6. The Knights weren't able to extend their rally due to a string on serving aces from Taylor. Marian went on a 5-0 rally to decrease the lead with kills by Sarah Bennett and Mikayla Christiansen higlighting the run to push for a Taylor timeout. The Knights fell in set one due to a few more runs by the Trojans to claim the 25-16 win over Marian.

The Trojans once again went on a 3-0 run to start off the secons set, but the Knights fired back with a 6-0 run highlighted by two serving aces for Mikayla Christiansen and a kill by Fish to claim the 6-3 lead. Taylor pushed at Marian's lead with multiple runs to take the 8-7 lead. The home team tied up the game claiming an attack error from the other side of the net to start off a 5-0 run to claim the lead again. The run was highlighted by Sami Luttel's serving ace and Emma Hirchak's kill. The game went back and forth for the rest of the set but the Knights held onto the lead and secured the set two win with a kill by Christiansen.

Unlike the first two set the Knights claimed the lead at the beginning with a 4-0 run to start off the set tallying kills by Fish and Christiansen. The Knights continued to increase their lead with service and attack errors from the Trojans increasing the score 10-5. Madison Brooks led a 5-0 run for the Knights to increase the lead once again. Taylor fought back hard with consecutive 7-0, 3-0, and 4-0 runs to claim their first lead of the set before Marian called a time-out. The Knights reclaimed the lead with kills from Hirchak, Christiansen, and Brooks highlighting the runs to claim the 25-23 win in set three and put the Knights in the lead 2-1 overall. 

The beginning of set four was very back to back for both sides garnering six ties before Marian claimed the lead with Christiansen's ace starting off the lead. Much like the first part of the set the points went back and forth but Marian maintained their lead with Hirchak claiming two kills before the Knights got points due to errors by Taylor. The end of the set featured Fish claiming two kills to seccure the 25-22 win over Taylor.

Gabby Fish and Mikayla Christiansen led the team in kills with 12 each. Emerson Evans led the team in assists with 20 while Sami Luttle was not far behind with 18. Nicole Wilkinson led the team in blocks with four while Madison Brooks and Sarah Bennett had three each. Emma Hirchak and Emma Lyons led the team in digs with 15 each. Mikayla Christiansen claimed three serving aces on the day.

The Knights are back in action Wednesday September 25th at home against Indiana Wesleyan starting at 7:00 p.m.
