Marian Falls 77-69 in a Hard Fight Against No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan

Indianapolis, Ind - The Marian women's basketball team fell to No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan Saturday afternoon. The Knights are now 14-5 overall and 7-2 in the Crossroads League. 

Marian got on the board first with a jumper from Kenna Kirby but Indiana Wesleyan was able to counter with a three pointer to take the early one point lead. The Wildcats continued their run with a layup followed by a free throw. Marian was able to bounce back with a trio of three pointers by Taylor Double and a jumper from Kirby to take the 10-8 lead. Indiana Wesleyan was able to counter with a three basket run to tie up the game. Abbey McNally was able to extend the Knights lead with a layup as well as a layup from Kirby to follow. The Wildcats fired back with a three pointer but Double was able to extend their lead with a jump shot. Indiana Wesleyan took back the lead with two baskets to end the quarter with a score of 17-16 stealing the lead from the Knights.

Both sides opened up the second quarter fighting hard with the Wildcats firing a three-pointer as well as a layup, McNally was able to record a pair of layups and Olivia Faust was able to fire off a layup and a free throw. Eva Fisher and Kirby were able to tab a lead for the Knights with Fisher recording a pair of free throws and Kirby recording a layup to bring the score 27-22. Indiana Wesleyan was able to bring the game to a bottleneck once more with a three-pointer and layup but the Knights fired back with a jumper from Kirby, a pair of free throws from Fisher, and a three-pointer from Double to tab the 34-27 lead. The Wildcats continued to fight with a pair of free throws as well as a three-pointer but the Knights were able to fire back with a layup from Zoe Wheeler. Indiana Wesleyan took back the lead with a pair of free throws and a three-pointer but McNally and Emily Grim were able to claim the lead one more time with a free throw each with 41 seconds remaining. Indiana Wesleyan was able to record a four point lead with a three-pointer and a layup. Fisher decreased the margin down to two with a layup to end the half 42-40 in favor of the Wildcats.

Indiana Wesleyan opened up the third quarter with a jumper followed by a three-pointer to extend their lead to seven. Kiley McNally decreased the lead with a pair of free throws. The Wildcats continued to bring the heat, recording a pair of layups followed by a layup from Abbey McNally to bring the score 51-44 in favor of the Wildcats. Indiana Wesleyan continued to rack up the points with a run of three baskets that were only broken up by a layup from Madisyn Bailey. With three minutes remaining in the quarter each side rattled off a pair of layups with Double tabbing the shots for the Knights. Kennedy Fuelling ended off the quarter with a pair of free throws to bring the score 52-62 in favor of the visitors.

Indiana Wesleyan continued to bring the heat with a pair of layups to open up the final quarter. Double was able to rattle off a three pointer once more but was followed up with a free throw and jumper by the Wildcats to bring the score 69-55. Faust was able to record a jumper as well as a three pointer from Double to bring the score within nine. Indiana Wesleyan continued to fire back with a layup but Fuelling and Double were able to counter with a layup and jumper. Both sides traded baskets once more with Double recording a jumper and Fuelling recording a three-pointer to bring the score 73-69 with 51 seconds remaining in the game. Indiana Wesleyan closed out the game with four free throws to secure the 77-69 win over the Knights.

Taylor Double led the Knights in scoring with 25 and Kenna Kirby tabbed 10 points. Abbey McNally led the team in rebounds with 13 while Olivia Faust and Kirby had five each. Kirby and Madisyn Bailey led the team in assists with three each. Double also went 5-6 in three pointers and Eva Fisher went 4-4 in free throws. 

The Knights will be back in action at home on Saturday, January 25th to start the second half of Crossroads League play as they take on No. 14 Grace with tip set for 1:00 p.m. in the P.E. Center.
