Knights Open Second Half of '25 Schedule With Victory Over Huntington

Indianapolis, Ind.- The Marian women's basketball started out 2025 with a win over Huntington. The Knights are now 12-3 and 5-0 in conference.
 

The first quarter started out on the slow end with only a singular free throw from Abbey McNally at the 9:12 mark. After two minutes of scoreless action Huntington got on the board with a layup but Madisyn Bailey quickly followed up with a layup to bring the score 3-2. The Foresters were able to take the lead back once more with a three pointer to go into halfway point in the quarter. Marian came out of the media timeout with a scoring run with Taylor Double, Bailey, and McNally all recording a layup each and Olivia Faust recording a pair of free throws. Huntington ended off the quarter with a three to set the score 11-8 in favor of the Knights.

Huntington opened up the quarter with a layup but Kennedy Fuelling followed up with a layup and a free throw. The Knights went on a scoring run once more with McNally, Fuelling, and Kenna Kirby each clamming a layup to bring the score 20-10. The Foresters and Knights traded baskets once more with Kirby recording two layups but Huntington was able to outscore Marian to bring the margin down to five. Faust ended off the half with a three-pointer to bring the score 27-21.

Coming out of the half the Foresters ticked off the first basket but was quickly followed up with a layup by Kiley McNally off of a steal from Bailey. Marian traded points and the Knights were able to keep the margin to seven with Double shooting a three and Kirby shooting a layup setting the score 34-27. The Knights were able to increase their lead to 14 with Kirby recording three jumpers within a minute of play. Bailey tabbed a layup and Faust recorded a three-pointer to end the third quarter with a score of 52-33. 

Marian opened up the final quarter with Faust tabbing a three and Double shooting a jumper to increase the Knights lead to a game high of 23. Huntington fired back with a layup but was countered by Kiley McNally's layup. Huntington kept pushing at Marian's lead but Zoe Wheeler was able to keep the margin to 20 with a pair of layups. After trading baskets once more the Knights were able to outscore the Foresters with, Wheeler shooting a pair of free throws and Kiley McNally shooting a pair of layups. Huntington benefited off of a Marian foul to tab a layup and free throw but Kiley McNally was able to fire back with a layup to bring the score 70-51. With 1:52 remaining on the clock Huntington was able to outscore the Knights with a three and a layup compared to Marian's layup from Kirby and Jumper from Wheeler to bring the score 74-53 with 38 seconds remaining on the clock. Esther Sevilla shot the final points for Marian with a pair of free throws. The Foresters were able to tab the last basket with a three to end the game 76-58 to allow Marian to secure the win. 

Kenna Kirby led the Knights in points with 16 and four assists, Abbey McNally led the team in rebounds with 22 while tabbing nine points. Taylor Double, Kiley McNally, and Olivia Faust each tabbed 10 points. 

The Knights will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to Mishawaka to take on the Bethel Pilots on Wednesday, January 8th starting at 5:30 PM.
