Fort Wayne, Ind. - Finishing out their road trip the volleyball team finished with a 3-0 sweep over Saint Francis on Saturday. The Knights move to 13-7 overall on the season and 5-6 in the Crossroads League.
In set one Marian was efficient hitting a .200 compared to the Cougars .143 hitting average. The Knights recorded 13 kills with early points by
Khori Dryden,
Sarah Bennett, and
Avery Toole. Marian and Saint Francis went back and fourth before the Knights took charge at the 13-13 tie with Bennett,
Chloe Cook, and Dryden leading the way. An ace from both
Callaway Marsh and
Emerson Evans followed by kills from Dryden allowed the Knights to secure the 15-20 win.
The Knights continued to improve in set two with a hitting average of .346 compared to a .062 from the Cougars. Marian recorded 12 kills in the set with
Khori Dryden recording another kill followed by an ace from
Callaway Marsh to take the early lead. The Knights continued to push forward ahead of the Cougars benefitting off of key attacking and serving errors followed by kills from
Chloe Cook, Dryden, and
Ava Tindall and a service ace to take the 10-5 lead. Dryden,
Sarah Bennett continued to rattle off kills before Tindall and Dryden followed by an ace from
Lexa Zimmerman to end the set with a 25-14 win.
Marian shined in the third set with a hitting average of .450 recording 10 kills. The Knights rattled off multiple scoring runs highlighted by kills from
Khori Dryden and
Danielle Schade with an ace from
Callaway Marsh to take the 13-3 lead forcing a Saint Francis timeout. After the Cougars timeout the Knights went on another scoring run with Dryden recording a kill while
Mya Cunningham and
Sarah Bennett recorded a block. Marian ended the match with a kill from
Ava Tindall followed by an attacking error from the Cougars off of a block from Bennett to take the 25-9 win.
As a whole, Marian recorded a hitting percentage of .302 led by
Khori Dryden with 14 kills. Dryden hit a .414 in the match, with six digs and one assist.
Emma Lyons led the team in dogs with 12, and
Sarah Bennett recorded seven kills.
Mya Cunningham led the team in assists with 16 while
Sami Luttel recorded 15.
The Knights return back home on Wednesday as they take on Bethel at 7 PM.
