Marian Logs Full-Time Scoreless Draw at No. 19 Taylor

Story Links

Upland, Ind. - Marian generated chances on Saturday in a top-25 matchup with No. 19 Taylor, but despite 10 second half shot attempts, the Knights were unable to secure a goal on the Trojans, netting a scoreless draw. The 0-0 tie is Marian's first non-win of the season, as the record moves to 12-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the Crossroads League.

Taylor's athleticism aided the home team throughout the first half on Saturday, allowing them to log two early shots on goal against the Knights. Lily Ames came up with the save on each occasion, denying Eliza Luttrell and Sydney Reddy of a score. Marian had opportunities of their own in the first half, with Taylor Wert coming up short on a 10th minute shot, while Katie Koger and Kylie Conrad each had shot attempts in the final 12 minutes of the period get denied by goalie Brianna Rawlings.

The Knights won the first half shot attempts 7-3, with Koger and Conrad taking two shots each in the half.

The Trojans started the second half shot attempts with two in the first handful of minutes, however, it would be the Knights who would end up dominating the offensive side for the final 45 minutes. Taylor logged two shots wide of goal in the first seven minutes, while Allie Tredway had an opportunity from five yards away in the 50th minute to score the game's first goal, however, her attempt missed wide of the open target.

Marian continued to press and drew shot attempts from Katie Koger, Taylor Wert, and Tredway, controlling a series of 15 minutes within the Taylor goal area. The Knights' defense denied Taylor of building momentum, and with over 12 minutes remaining, the team had a promising scoring opportunity get denied. A free kick from outside of the 18' for Marian Corro Celma was blocked by Taylor's wall of defenders, with the ball ricocheting away from a Knight on the rebound chance. Kiley Jones had the final shot of the game for Marian as she was rewarded a free kick, but her look sailed high of the goal in the final 30 seconds, as the game would fade into a 0-0 draw.

Lily Ames logged a scoreless draw in goal, making a pair of saves to remain unbeaten on the season. Koger took a team-high five shot attempts, while Wert and Tredway each logged two attempts.

Marian completes a two-game road stint on Wednesday night, traveling to Bethel University for a 6:00 p.m. match against the Pilots.
