Indianapolis, Ind.- The Marian men's basketball team fell to St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon, as the Bobcats took down the Knights 84-79. Marian falls to 3-0 on the season following the loss.
Marian won the opening tip, taking the early lead from
Noah Lovan's jumper. Both sides fired off multiple baskets, leveling the game three times before Marian pushed ahead behind a free-throw from
Dylan Moles, a layup from
Aaron Humphrey Jr., and a three-pointer from
Joshua Renfro to take the 12-8 lead. The Bobcats fired back with a pair of jumpers to tie up the game once more. Before the first timeout of the half, with each team tied 17-17. Out of the timeout, both sides battled once more before the Knights pushed forward with Moles recording four baskets with
Luke Carroll and Lovan each recording one, taking the 29-21 lead. St. Thomas attempted to push back, but Marian was able to maintain the lead, ending the half with a 39-38 lead with
Dylan Moles and
Noah Lovan each leading the team with 10 points each.
Saint Thomas opened up the second half, taking the early five-point lead over Marian.
Ron Rutland III and
Blake Russell pushed back with a pair of jumpers to bring down the lead to one. The Bobcats kept pushing at the Knights, taking their biggest lead of the game, 59-51, before Marian was able to keep the game within reach with a pair of free throws from Renfro and a layup from Rutland III, bringing the game within four. Saint Thomas stayed in control of the ball game, extending their lead into double digits at the 9:33 mark. Lovan, Humphrey Jr.,
Aidan Franks, and Moles quickly brought the deficit down to 70-69, with Humphry Jr. recording a pair of baskets and everyone else recording one. Each side went back and forth in the final minutes of the game before Saint Thomas took control, benefiting from free throws and taking the 84-79 win over Marian.
Aaron Humphrey Jr. led the team, recording a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds on the day.
Noah Lovan and
Dylan Moles led the team in points with 17 each and one steal each.
Joshua Renfro also scored in the double digits with 17 and recorded two steals. Lovan led the team in assists with five, while Humphrey Jr. recorded three.
Marian will be back in action on Tuesday, November 11th, as they host No. 21 Indiana Tech at 7 P.M. in the P.E. Center.
