Oak Lawn, Ill. - The Marian women's basketball team dominated against IU-Northwest to close out their weekend. With their 105-47 win, the Knights move to 3-0 overall on the season.
Marian got off to an early start, winning the opening tip followed by a jumper from
Abbey McNally. IU-Northwest took its only lead of the game with a three-pointer, followed by a layup to take the three-point lead. Marian quickly pushed back with a pair of free throws and a layup to tie the game 6-6.
Kiley McNally recorded a layup, followed by a jumper and a layup from
Abbey McNally to take the 12-6. The Red Hawks were able to push back with a jumper to draw a Media Timeout. Out of the timeout, the Knights continued to extend their lead with
Taylor Double,
Eva Fisher, and
Madisyn Bailey all recording multiple baskets. IU-Northwest attempted to push at the lead with a pair of free throws, but
Kenna Kirby quickly countered with a three-pointer to take the 30-12 lead after the first quarter.
The Red Hawks opened up the second quarter with a layup and three-pointer, only to be broken up by a layup from
Emily Grimm. Marian continued to extend their lead to 21 with a pair of layups from Fisher and a layup from Kirby. IU-Northwest recorded three more baskets, but Kirby,
Violet Shuluga, and
Aubrey Frank extended the lead 47-23 with two minutes left in the quarter. The Red Hawks recorded their final basket of the quarter before Kirby and Fisher finished off the quarter with a pair of baskets, recording the 52-23 lead.
Out of halftime, Marian got off to an early push with a seven-basket run, including
Olivia Faust, Double, and
Abbey McNally extending the lead 62-23. IU-Northwest recorded a layup, but Marian was quick to counter with three baskets to increase their lead to 40. The Red Hawks recorded four more baskets in the quarter, but Marian was able to outscore them once again with seven baskets to increase their lead to 76-33.
Marina continued their domination in the final quarter, opening up with a three pointer from Frank and a layup from Shuluga. Each team traded baskets with
Kiley McNally and Shuluga, each recording a layup, and McNally recording a pair of free throws as well. Marian extended their run with a four-basket run to extend their lead to 54. The Red Hawks fired off a pair of free throws, but Marian was able to extend their lead once more, breaking 100 for the first time this season, finishing the match up 105-47.
Kenna Kirby led the team in points with 18 while also leading in rebounds with six.
Aubrey Frank was close behind with 16 points and five rebounds, and four assists. The McNally's each had 12 points, with Kiley recording three rebounds and two assists, and Abbey recording four rebounds.
Eva Fisher also recorded 12 points in the match-up, while
Madisyn Bailey led the team in assists with five.
The Knights will be back in action on Tuesday, November 11th as they travel to Oakland City, Ind. to take on the Mighty Oaks at 7 PM.
