Knights Win Senior Day Matchup Against MVNU

Indianapolis, Ind. - The Marian women's basketball team are now 21-6 on the season and 14-3 in the Crossroads League with their 72-62 win over Mount Vernon on Senior Day.

The Knights opened up the game with four unanswered baskets to draw the media timeout with an 8-0 lead. Abbey McNally and Madisyn Bailey recorded a layup each while Kenna Kirby tabbed a three-pointer and a free throw. Marian continued their run with a pair of free throws from Olivia Faust, a three-pointer from Zoe Wheeler, and a layup from Taylor Double to increase their lead 15-0. The Cougars were able to push at the Knights lead shooting a free throw with 2:10 remaining on the clock. Marian continued to extend their lead with a jumper from Bailey, but Mount Vernon pushed back with a three-pointer but the Knights were able to counter with a three-pointer from Wheeler. Each team traded layups with Kiley McNally tabbed the basket for the Knights to extend their lead 22-16. 
Abbey McNally opened the second quarter with a pair of free throws but was quickly countered with a layup from the Cougars. Mount Vernon continued to push at the margin with a pair of free throws but were quickly leveled by a jumper from Abbey. The Cougars attempted at a push once more but Marian was able to outscore with a jumper from Kirby and a layup from Kiley McNally to extend the lead 30-13 going into the media timeout. Both teams traded a layup each with Kirby recording the basket for the Knights. Both teams recorded two baskets to end the quarter with Abbey tabbing a layup and Faust recording a jumper to end the quarter 36-21.

Mount Vernon opened up the third quarter with a jumper but the Knights were able to level with a jumper from Double. Both sides traded baskets with Faust recording the basket for the Knights. The Cougars were able to go on a four basket run only broken up by a free throw from Kiley McNally. Marian was able to fight back with a pair of baskets with Abbey McNally and Emily Grim recording a layup each to bring the score 45-32. Mount Vernon continued to push with a layup and a free throw, Grim decreased the blow with a layup. Each side traded two points once more with Kenna Kirby recording the basket for Marian. With a minute and a half left the Cougars continued their push with a layup and a three-pointer to end the quarter 49-42.

Kenna Kirby opens up the fourth quarter with a jumper followed by a layup from both sides with Double tabbing the layup for the Knights and a free throw. Each side traded layups with Abbey McNally outsourcing the Cougars with two to bring the score 56-45. The Cougars fired off a three-pointer but Kiley McNally was able to decrease the blow with a layup. Mount Vernon fired off a layup but Kiley was able to level with another layup followed by a layup from Abbey to extend the lead 62-52. Bailey extended the run with a layup but the Cougars were able to follow up with a three-point jumper. Out of a Mount Vernon timeout Kiley fired off a layup, the Cougars were able to shoot a three-pointer but Abbey was able to decrease the blow with a layup. Mount Vernon showed no signs of giving up benefitting off of a Marian foul to fire off a free throw. Abbey and Kiley McNally recorded the last Marian baskets with Abbey recording a jumper and Kiley recording two free throws. The Cougars ended the game with two baskets to allow Marian to take the 72-62 win. 

Abbey McNally led the team in points and rebound with 18 points and 20 rebounds. In the first quarter McNally secured her title as the All-Time Leading offensive rebounder with 370 rebounds throughout her career. Kiley McNally recorded 13 points in the game and four rebounds. Kenna Kirby tallied 12 points and three rebounds. Both McNally's led the team in steals with three while Abbey and Madisyn Bailey led the team in blocks with two and assists with four.   

Marian will be back in action on Saturday, February 22nd as they travel to Marion, Ind. to take on No. 2 Indiana Wesleyan starting at 1:00 p.m.
